What kind of lizard is this(in South Florida)?
he is in the Iguana family, he is different from the Iguanas you find at the pet supermarket, and much larger. Most likely not native to florida, like most of the central american iguanas found around south florida. Some have brightly colored tales, some change colors. This guy is really beautiful. I have seen them in Davie near the cs and river, in Miami springs by the bridge going over to hialeah. and all over Doral near 87th ave and 36th street next to the c behind the buildings. I live in westchester near Westwood lakes and they are everywhere, and they always amaze me, some say they taste like chicken, I'm not joking about that. do not get him confused with the cuban anaol, I don't know how to spell anaol, but they have a larger head that resembles an alligator head and they do bite, they are nasty. Iguanas will bite, too, but mostly will run away. they swim really cool.
